Otter Class

Welcome to Otter class!

Welcome to Otter class! Our class teacher is Mrs Mountford and our teaching assistants are Mrs Moore and Mrs Abbas. We are the pure year 2 class and as such we take on (alongside our year 2 friends in Fox class) varying responsibilities within the school. We enjoy a mixed approach to learning, combining more formal lessons with hands-on practical lessons, and like to take our learning outdoors whenever we can. We like to follow our interests in our topics, and interweave our school values of love, respect, wisdom, hope and resilience into all of our learning.

Autumn term

This term our topic is This is Me! Through this we have explored our emotions and how to manage them; changes in our lifetime (which has given us a lot to talk about!); hygiene and healthy eating; and our school and local area. We had lots of fun tasting dips from around the world and then getting messy making our own guacamole, which was delicious! This motivated us to learn more about the country Mexico, comparing the country and it’s traditions to England. We enjoyed finding out about Frida Kahlo, a famous Mexican artist, her artwork providing the inspiration for us to produce our own self portraits. We have been getting active with dance and have some very enthusiastic dancers who are fantastic at the Mexican Hat Dance, coercing Mrs Mountford into performing with them for our sports coaches!

Still to come this term we are looking forward to learning about Christmas around the world, with the different traditions and tying this in to our RE learning about the role of angels in the nativity story. We are moving from dance to yoga, giving ourselves another tool in our calming strategies toolkit.
