Puttenham Church of England Infant School

Puttenham Church of England Infant School

Otter Class

Welcome to Otter class!

Our class teacher is Mrs Mountford and our teaching assistant is Mrs Gill. We are a year 2 class and as such we take on (alongside our year 2 friends in Fox class) varying responsibilities within the school. We enjoy a mixed approach to learning, combining more formal lessons with hands-on practical lessons, and like to take our learning outdoors whenever we can. We like to follow our interests in our topics, and interweave our school values of love, respect, wisdom, hope and resilience into all of our learning.

Autumn term
This term we have been learning about heroes and heroines both fictional and real life. We were very lucky to have two visiting heroes, one RAF officer and a nurse. We have also learnt about Rosa Parks and Emmeline Pankhurst who we all agreed were heroes for the changes that they instigated in society. We found the methods used by these heroic ladies interesting, and they raised lots of questions about right and wrong. We also learnt about Roy Lichtenstein and made some amazing pop art using onomatopoeia.

Spring term
This term we are learning about islands, linking our learning to the Katie Morag stories. We have learnt a lot about the United Kingdom with a focus on Scotland and the Scottish artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh. We are also learning about animals and plants and have had lots of fun making our own life cycles!

We have been looking at different ways to send our thoughts and prayers out into the world. First we wrote a prayer or thought onto a leaf which we released into the wind to be taken away. Then we released our worries and hopes by blowing them away in the "thought bubbles".
