Puttenham Church of England Infant School

Fox Class

Welcome to Fox class!

We are a mixed class with Year 1 and 2 children and we love to work hard and have fun! Mrs Calver and Mrs Dynan are the class teachers and between them, they have over 30 years of experience.   Our teaching assistants are Mrs Love, Mrs Shaw and Mrs Allen.
Our classroom is an exciting place to learn…..we have lots of different resource areas to further our learning including art/DT, STEM, a maths challenge table to stretch all abilities and a role play area to name but a few!

We are lucky enough to have direct access onto the playground from our classroom, which happens to be beside the school ‘Quiet Garden’ and Book Shed.  We also have learning time in all outside areas including our very popular Forest School as well as our school allotment, which springs into action after Easter! Our class love the larger space of the hall for lessons such as yoga, PE and drama as well as breaking out into small groups to utilise the library and Group Room with the class teacher or teaching assistant.

Fox class also work closely with the Year 1s in Rabbit class and the Year 2’s in Otter class for things such as phonics, music, recorders for Year 2s, pause days, trips, workshops and the Christmas play.  In the Summer Term, all of the Year 2s from both classes take part in ‘Puttenham Speaking and Listening’.
In our mixed age class, all of our children are challenged and extended in their learning as we aim to meet the needs of each child.  We adapt our learning objectives and resources to cater for the different age groups, abilities and year groups.  As a Christian school, our values of love, hope, wisdom, resilience and respect run through all our learning topics.  Each classroom has its own reflective prayer area and everyone has access to the whole school prayer area at playtimes if the children choose to use them.

Fox Class love books!  We enjoy reading from and listening to both fiction and non-fiction books.  We read for pleasure using books from our class reading area, the school Library and the Book Shed in the playground.  Our class love choosing which book to read next by voting between two books that are on display…a great experience in British values and democracy!
The children in Fox Class will have the opportunity to work independently, in small groups, across the year groups and through mixed ages where appropriate.  Responsibility wise, our Year 2s take turns with Otter class, to help lead assemblies by doing ‘Cross and Candles’, control the CD player, collect the registers, help with the play time bell and many have Playground Buddy roles.  We voted which class members from both Year 1 and Year 2 represent Fox class on the School Council.

Since September, we have already….. made new friends, cooked bread, sewn Superheros masks, made smoothies, written stories, poems and letters, got muddy at Forest School, grown mould in Science, spotted signs of Autumn on a seasons walk, learnt new songs and put on a production of the Nativity with Otter Class, hosted an exhibition for our parents showcasing our Art work, helped to do readings in church and assembly, used the iPads in computing, chipped and melted vegetables out of ice blocks in Science as well as added, subtracted, multiplied and measured our way through maths lessons, problem solved and worked collaboratively in pairs, groups and teams….and we can’t wait to keep learning!
