Puttenham Church of England Infant School
Puttenham Church of England Infant School
At Puttenham, we value music as a powerful and unique form of communication. We understand how it can change how children feel, think and act. Our aim is to inspire a love of music which includes forming preferences, appreciating music, participating and performing. This will increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. They will develop an understanding of tempo, pitch and volume. The children will also learn to compose their own music.
Our children love singing. We carry out a singing assembly each week. The children are also given lots opportunities to perform during assemblies, Church services, school plays and local music festivals.
We use music express and a range of other music resources from the United Kingdom and the wider world. The children have the opportunity to sing, dance and play percussion instruments. They will listen to a range of composers. The children listen to music in their classrooms, during the assemblies/collective worships and during events. Charterhouse school musicians and parents are invited to the school to play instruments to the children.
The children are able to learn to sing, play the electronic drums and keyboard with Rock Steady Music company. We also work with Surrey Arts to offer violin lessons in school. In year 2 the children all learn to play the recorder.
